Freedom! For our friends, the Cyborgs, and for me. The day has finally come, where dreams come true and we see where they lead us. It's the 4th of July, and for those of us in the U.S., that means we're celebrating for various reasons. For me, alongside being thankful for the sacrifices of brave men and women, I'm celebrating a journey over 8 years in the making.
Cyborg Serum back then began as it begins every comic for me... trying to draw a circle or square about a hundred times before I accept mediocrity and move on. I still vividly remember sitting down in the apartment I shared with my brother and trying to craft my future. I sat at my desk--which I had stuffed inside my closet--and closed the door. It was just me and a blank sheet of paper. Eventually I wrote and sketched 24 comics and I don't think I had ever been more proud of myself at the time.
Like all things I had ever done, I set them aside. I'd always been passionate about them, I showed them to all my friends, and eventually the woman I'd come to call my wife. Being the amazing woman she is, she was impressed and encouraged me to do something with them. Being the lazy, procrastinating person I've been for longer than I've known her, I nodded my head, agreed--because that's what men do when faced with words from a woman--then lazed and procrastinated.
I've always agreed with her, I was proud of myself and proud of my comics, but I couldn't muster up the motivation to do anything with them. If I did, what would I possibly do? Well, here we are. Among the many things that my wife has encouraged me to better myself with, I'm sharing this particular journey with everyone. I want anyone and everyone to understand that this would never have happened without the support of my loving wife; through thick and thin, good and bad, she's my hero. And, if you find yourself falling in love with Cyborg Serum, she's your hero, too!
8 years later, the Cyborgs have finally escaped my clutches and found freedom!
